In Charleston, Impact (Profit & Purpose) Studies at The School of Business, The College of Charleston, Are being Used to Help Build a Community That is Socially, Economically, and Environmentally Sustainable for All of its Residents
Profit & Purpose
Five years ago, our Founder walked into the School of Business at the College of Charleston and offered to make a difference by designing, implementing, helping fund, and helping teach a course on Impact Entrepreneurship, as a precursor to building a Center for Impact Studies. He promised that the class (and eventually the center) would form an integral part of a new form of economics (Impact Economics), that when embraced by the City of Charleston, would make it and the college a global exemplar of how to build a community that is socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable for all of its residents.
Today, his vision is becoming a reality, and Impact Day Charleston is an event where all community stakeholders can see the results, learn from global experts, and find out how they can participate in, and personally benefit from contributing to the attainment of a sustainable future for Charleston, South Carolina.
This year, In Place Impact (which co-hosts the event with the School of Business at the College of Charleston), is adding a Demo Day for Charleston area Impact Entrepreneurs who are stewarding innovations purposed to help solve a social and or environmental problem faced by residents of the greater Charleston region. The event will take place at 5pm on October 23rd, in the Wells Fargo Auditorium, located in the School of Business at 5 Liberty Street, Charleston, SC.
6 Impact Entrepreneurs will be chosen to give 3 minute pitches to an audience of Impact Investors, wishing to support innovations that will help Charleston become socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable for all of its residents. Applicants must be for-profit companies.
The winner will receive the following:
A $1,500 cash prize donated by Stuart and Rebecca Williams
An invitation to the private reception for Impact Day Charleston 2019, being held that night, at 6pm, at the historic home of the President of the College of Charleston

An award presented to them the following day during Impact Day Charleston 2019, as the College of Charleston, School of Business, Community Impact Innovation of the Year

The option to join IPI Charleston's free Impact Incubator/Accelerator
In 1993, our Founder co-authored the global thesis, "Making A Profit While Making A. Difference". Today, global business leaders call it "purpose and profit", and as you can see from Mr. Larry Fink's (Chaiman and CEO of BlackRock), the world is now embracing his vision. (See Larry Fink's Letter to CEO's). Mr. Fink is not alone in his beliefs, as many other global business leaders are singing from the same hymn book, The Future.
To quote our Founder
"What is in our heads will make us marginally dangerous to the status quo, however, what is in our hearts will make us a global force to be reckoned with".
To apply to present, please complete the application form below. Deadlines for applications are August 15th, 2019, and those chosen will be alerted on or before September 1st, 2019.
